Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA): All you need to know

Back to article list

Latest articles

Conjugated Linoleic Acid, commonly referred to as CLA is a naturally occurring Omega 6 fatty acid.

CLA is most widely found in the diet in vegetable oils, as well as in dairy and beef products, although it's found in relatively small amounts.

Most commercial supplements are derived from Safflowers, which are a naturally rich source of linoleic acid, a precursor to CLA. Scientific research has demonstrated some exciting findings that showcase CLA supplement's role in supporting weight loss.

The potential benefits of CLA

There have been over 65 clinical studies which have investigated the effects of CLA in supporting weight loss. These studies have confirmed that, when used in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular exercise, CLA is very effective in aiding towards your weight loss goals, particularly if you are already overweight.

Although further research is required it is thought that CLA aids weight loss by reducing fat storage. CLA should not be considered in the same bracket as 'fat burners' as it does not work by increasing the bodies temperature at rest (thermogenesis).

How much CLA should I take?

Experts recommend a daily intake of 3-6g daily. High quality supplements will provide 1g of CLA per capsule so you should take a minimum of 3 capsules per day to obtain CLA's beneficial effects.

When should I take CLA?

CLA should be taken 30 minutes before or alongside a meal.
