What Is Whey Protein And What Is It Made From?
Whey protein is essentially a protein that comes from milk. It’s popular among athletes, bodybuilders, and fitness enthusiasts and boasts a fast abortion and amino acid profile, which helps to support muscle growth, repair, and overall recovery. There are a few types of whey protein, each are made with different ingredients. Some whey protein powder is made up of a blend of whey concentrate and isolated protein.
Whey protein concentrate is a by-product of cheese production as the liquid part (whey) separates from the milk. It’s about 70 to 80% protein and contains a little lactose (milk sugar) and fat. Where whey protein isolate has undergone extra processing steps to further filter out the protein meaning it tends to contain 90% or more protein. There is also clear whey protein which is made from hydrolysed whey isolate, with each serving containing 21 g of hydrolysed whey protein isolate.
What are the benefits of whey protein?
There are several benefits of taking whey protein. Primarily, it supports muscle growth and repair. Whey protein also contains all the essential amino acids needed for muscle development and can help support recovery from intense training.
Some types of whey, such as whey protein isolate, are lower in lactose than others, which is ideal for anyone who finds that whey might affect their gut health. For anyone who is tracking their macros or following a low-fat diet, choosing clear whey protein powder is a great option.

Should You Drink Whey Protein Every Day?
There are currently no widely recognised concerns associated with consuming whey protein on a daily basis. However, it’s important to follow the recommended dose on the protein powder packaging. UK dietary guidelines recommend 0.75g of protein per kg of bodyweight daily - about 56g for men and 45g for women. But if you play sports or are an athlete, your protein needs increase to between 1.2-2g per kg of bodyweight per day. Depending on what whey protein you choose and the protein dosage, you should mix 1-2 scoops with a liquid to achieve the serving size. 21-24g of protein only need 1 scoop, where the higher levels of protein suggest 2 scoops.
To make whey protein easier to drink whether you’re at home or on the go, our Protein Shaker, comes with a mixer net to avoid lumps and a detachable storage compartment for your powders.
