Description
What are Energy Gels?
Energy gels are compact, easy-to-digest sachets that provide a quick source of carbohydrates to support performance during prolonged or intense activity. Each Healthspan Elite energy gel delivers fast-acting energy using a 2:1 dual combination of maltodextrin and fructose, and come in three delicious natural fruit flavours – apple & blackcurrant, citrus and passion fruit.
Why are ours better?
We use natural pectin for easier digestion and a more fluid, light consistency (not thick like other energy gels on the market) meaning you can easily consume them without water, ideal when you're on the move. We’ve also added electrolytes (sodium, potassium and calcium) to replace those lost during exercise. These dual-source energy gels use natural fruit flavours and have no unnecessary ingredients, no added sugar, and no artificial flavours and sweeteners.
When to take Energy Gels
As they are fast-acting, energy gels are designed to be taken immediately before and during exercise. Take one gel around 10 minutes before the start of your activity to top up your energy. For longer workouts or endurance events, such as half-marathons or long-distance cycling, consume another gel every 30-45 minutes of exercise to maintain energy levels.
How long do Energy Gels last?
Typically, you should aim for 60-90 grams of carbohydrates per hour, but this greatly depends on the intensity of exercise. As your body uses up the carbohydrates, energy levels may begin to dip, which is why regular intake is recommended during longer activities. Monitor how your body responds and adjust accordingly for best results and maximum performance.
